taking stock
so i thought it would be potentially interesting to try and compile a list of all the different brands of gear we use as a band. fender, gibson, rickenbacker, epiphone, univox, prs, gretsch, martin, yamaha, line 6, boss, electroharmonix, fulltone, penny pedals, ernie ball, vox, avatar, swr, markbass, spectraflex, dr, d'addario, skb, maxon, zvex, korg, ludwig, zildian, sabian, promark, pulse. is that it? i guess there's a bunch we used to use but don't any more. maybe that wasn't nearly as interesting as i thought it would be. oh man, and the list of brands we'd like to use would be huge. mine alone would be like 100 brands long.
whoa, we have a website?
things are still going along. we're (finally) finishing up our new record, then it's off to mastering. we've been playing a few shows with some great bands. we've been writing (kind of), we've kind of simultaneously been really busy and taking some time off and working on the record all at the same time. i added that neat little image scroller at the top of the page up there. we're about to start working on some cover songs for a pop tribute night we're doing at the end of august. in a few weeks we're playing with our most favorite band ever... SHINOBU!!!!!!! it's always like a family reunion when we see those guys. or voltron. or a voltron family reunion.

back in the van
we're playing a few shows in arizona this weekend. oak creek brewery in sedona, and studio 111 in flagstaff. all i'm sayin, is that when we get to sedona, first thing i'm hitting up is
Stevie Nicks' Fajita Roundup.
"jumping the gun"
i don't think that expression makes much sense. but unregardless, i may have done just that when i mentioned we might have settled on an album title. The album very well might NOT be called "Capital! Capital!" but maybe it will? the cover will still probably feature some sort of mythological beast fighting some sort of midget god. Anyway, what we HAVE settled on is a tracklisting, these are not necessarily in order, but these ARE the songs that will be on the record. unless by some unforseen circumstance this changes as well (less likely than the album title changing.)
- Electrickery
- Us and not U
- Specialized Ground Control
- Half and Half
- We're Drinking Spirits
- A Conjoining Sense of Togetherness
- I was a Tugboat
- Rollerskate Explosion
- Brontosaurus
- Let's Play Pretend (Return Fire? FIRE!)
and this ten song juggernaut is rolling in at right around a mega tight 36.5 minutes. and as if we haven't mentioned it enough, we are SUPER happy about how it's all turning out so far. it's a different ballgame this time around folks. we're not messin around. ya know how there was like that whole movie based on that book about that code that da vinci had? ya know, the da vinci code? there were all those little secrets and little clues along the way and puzzles and chases and bad guys and good guys and detectives and stuff? our new album is like that, but ya know... music.
Oh right, we have a website.
things on our front have been pushing along well. We re-enter the studio this weekend after a few weeks off to start on the long dark of mixing. However, we've been slowly mixing and tweaking all along, so we're in good shape. And for those of you "in the know", that means that we are actually really close to being done. In the meantime we have a preview up on our
myspace page. It's got about 30 second clips of every track on the record, and the responses have been extremely positive! We're nearing 35,000 plays (isn't that exciting?). We've got a bunch of shows coming up as well, now that we're finishing up the album, we're really excited to get out there and start playing some of this stuff for people. Oh, and I think we've settled on a name for the album, "Capital! Capital!". And the cover art will probably be some sort of mythological beast fighting a god, or a midget, or a midget god. so yeah, we can't thank Sean enough for helping us with this record, it has been a real privilege and pleasure working with him, and check out his band
the oktober people, because they are amazing.
A beautiful moment
you can find the entire real world episode on mtv's site. go mtv.com, click on "on tv", and then on the right hand side click on "rw denver: full episode (ep. 15)". the song played over the last minute of the show, while the previously homophobic young black man comes to terms with the fact that he needs to be more accepting of gay people, and he feels like he's growing. and just before the credits we hear javier's wonderful swooning vocals. mtv and cherry tempo... a match made in heaven. i think the episode will actually be available for download through the itunes store fairly soon also, so you can get the whole deal without commercials for the low low price of 2 dollars! our album is also available through itunes, but you probably already knew that. not to paint the portrait of a lazy band, because we have been extremely busy with working on album #2, but this weekend we will be having our first practice since before january tour! we're all excited!
